Shrieking Shack

The Shrieking Shack is an abandoned house in Hogsmeade. For many years, villagers thought it was haunted because they often heard screams coming from inside, and Albus Dumbledore encouraged the rumur, as he was the one who commissioned it, due to Remus Lupin's Lycanthropy. According to Nearly Headless Nick, not even the Hogwarts ghosts will enter it. The Shrieking Shack's entrance from the Hogwarts Grounds is the base of the Whomping Willow. The trick is to poke the knot in the trunk, which stops the tree hitting anyone. One way to do this is to to use a long stick. The secret passageway can be seen on the Marauder's map. In reality, the Shrieking Shack was built so that Remus Lupin would have a place for his monthly transformations into a werewolf in secret and in safety, during the time he was a student attending Hogwarts. Madam Pomfrey used to escort Lupin into The Shrieking Shack before his transformation. The yells and shouts heard by the villagers were really Lupin biting and scratching himself due to lack of humans to infect. The "shack" actually has no working doors or windows that allow entry or exit of the premises. The entrance is through a tunnel under the Whomping Willow on Hogwarts' school grounds. This allowed Lupin (and others) to pass between the two locations unnoticed.

remus made his way through the tunnel, Madame Promfrey at his side of course as always. He sulked as they entered the house.

"Oh cheer up, poppet." she told him as she always did, just before confining him to this wretched place for three nights. Remus sighed, knowing he wasn't getting away He moved up the stairs to the room he was kept it to destroy each month, and as he did his mind ran off to his own little happy place he'd created for these times. It looked as if his nurse wanted to cry as she closed the door with one last glance to him. Just as she did so he sunk to the floor where he stood, right in the middle of the room. His sadness was over whelming and even he couldn't handle it as he sat there and just waited... waited for it to begin so it could be over.

Having changed himself into a large black rugged mutt for the job of it, Sirius waited until the nurse had left. He then pulled himself through the rubble he had covered a hole he dug through and slid into Remus' room. Barking joyously and bouncing over to him, Sirius sat obediently at his feet. His paws went to Remus' shoulders to cheer him up, his tail wagging quickly.

"Not now, Padfoot," Remus mumbled. He hated this time of the month. He felt like a woman, going through her cycle, except his only lasted for three nights. Three nights of painful transformations and hunger... A hunger he could not satisfy. Sirius didn't move from where he was and Remus sighed, giving in to a sad smile. He reached out and loved on his friend's ears, scratching him. Sirius was like his pet sometimes he would swear it, and the thought made him chuckle cinically. He shook loose the silly thoughts and pushed Sirius off him. "You'd better be gone by sundown," Remus said to him as he stood.

Sirius had no intention of leaving, just like he never had an intention of leaving. Of the group Sirius was the one use to the most abuse and he always stayed with his fellow mutt of a different breed. Wanting to cheer up Remus a bit, Sirius started running around, jumping up here and there like he was chasing dust mites. He could have too, the room was in shambles. As night set in Sirius took his spot in the corner and watched his friend transform, knowing he was useless for the time being.

As the sun set the sickening sound of his flesh tearing away and his bones popping and jutting outward could be heard. Remus groaned in agony as it happened and, as always, he was hunched in a self protective ball whimpering by the time if was finished. However, within moments the personality set in and Remus let out a viscous howl. Near the end of it it mixed with a growl and he went for the door. He hadn't noticed Sirius, the dogs smell was all over the house along with Remus' and he accepted him as a dog normally. At least on the first night of this. When he couldn't get free the werewolf that was once Remus Lupin let out another strangled cry, tearing apart anything he could get his hands on. The bed, the pillows, matress, and all that came with. He then moved on to destroy the dresser, snarling in a grotesque manner as he did so.

Sirius started to run around. He grabbed his friend's attention until the werewolf was watching him wrap around. Eventually he tackled the werewolf down, pinning him to the ground. When Remus attacked he jumped away but let out a growl. The mutts spoke to each other like this, fought like this, and would tear each other apart like this. The worst part was Sirius wouldn't heal quite as quickly as his friend over there.

Whether it was the way a werewolf played or Remus just had to hurt something, it wasn't known. But for the majority of the night the two went at it. Remus would whine a little when a clump of hair and skin was ripped from him and her would growl menacingly as his claws and teeth sank into the mutt. Finally though, Remus moved away from Sirius, not wanting any more of it. He growled low, a growl meant for the entire world as he longed to be free of this little space. Soon though, he whined as the rebounding pain took hold of him. His bone cracked and shrank and skin regrew at an alarming rate. FInally his eyes changed back,m and Remus slumped against the dresser, where he'd been standing when it happened. He sank to the floor quickly, his body simply collapsing there for a while. There were scratches bits and bruises all over the place, but he didn't seem to care as he curled up, his body without clothing and a little cold now.

Sirius, now limping with clots of blood in his matted black fur, went to his other mutt friend and laid by his naked form. There was no need to care about the flesh free or not, both of them went through a transformation that left them bare. He pulled over, wincing as little as possible, a ripped blanked and wrapped it around Remus without changing back. He then laid at the corner of it, licking his wounds and trying his best to heal before the night started again.

At some point during the day Remus awoke. He was sore, but he brushed it off as he stood. He found himself something out of the slashed dresser and dressed himself quickly, not fancying the idea of being nude when Madame Promfrey showed up with his lunch... "I'm sorry, friend..." he said to Sirius weakly, flopping onto he torn up bed.

Sirius made a half barking noise before moving the blanket over him completely. Moments later there was a knock on the door and Madam Promfrey opened the door. She brought in the food, looked around and fixed a few things, then left him again after a bit of talk. Once she was gone Sirius moved the blanket so his nose could stick out and sniff the air for the food. He could care less about his injuries.

As per usual, Remus pushed most of his food over to Sirius, not really hungry. he kept only a piece of bread for himself and gnawed it slowly. He simply watched the floor for a while, detesting these three nights. He chuckled at the way Sirius attacked the food. "I swear you are more doglike than anything anymore, Padfoot," he mumbled wit ha grin.

If a dog could sneer that's what he'd be doing. Hell, it half looked like he was anyway. Ignoring him for a moment, Sirius tore open the small package that had a fresh drink inside. Licking up the remains on the ground, he licked the plate clean. That food sucked. Remus was lucky he didn't eat it but Sirius need to for the healing. He needed the energy and he'd attack a rat if it crawled in. Well, he would so long as he knew who the rat was.

Remus, as he always did, soon stood from the bed and began his incessant pacing. Back and forth and around he would walk, as he just waited for the night to begin and it to all be over. He yawned a little, tired and weary. "Wonder how the Ball's going to be this year..." he muttered almost incoherently, speaking his thoughts aloud. "Who are you taking?" he asked his friend, though he knew Sirius wouldn't answer him... not so long as he was a dog anyway. "Nevermind," he said, resuming his pacing.

Sirius made a huffing noise as if his friend were insane. Like he was going to bring anyone. As far as he was concerned the Ball was pointless. The only thing that could come out of it would be either James getting Lily or Sirius having some fun tormenting Severus. Either way, it was pointless in the long run. Soon the mutt stared wandering back and forth with his friend, his eyes on the cracks at his paws, waiting for the fights to begin. He limped slightly but kept himself walking, making sure to force himself into healing.

"Maybe you shouldn't stay tonight, Sirius." Remus said, stopping his pacing for a moment and observing his friend. "Please leave tonight?" he said, knowing he couldn't order him away. Sirius was a pain that way... He sighed at the response he got and slumped against the door. His head lolled back and hit it roughly... he just rested it there and closed his eyes, running a hand over his face. "You know it'll be worse tonight..." he finally said, his head still back against the door and his eyes still closed while his hands had gone into his pockets.

Sirius just growled slightly, telling his friend in his own way how much Remus was being an idiot. Then the pacing continued for the mutt until he just couldn't take it any more and collapsed on the blankets again. Even though his friend's eyes never opened, the black mutt just nodded with the knowledge. He didn't care.

The day went on like this, Madame Promfrey bringing him something to eat about an hour before sunset. Other than that Remus simply paced the room. Occasionally Sirius paced with him but Remus was glad he was taking most of the day to lay down on the blankets. Remus knew it would begin again soon, and he wanted Sirius to not have a near death experience. Finally it began. Remus let out a miserable groan as he crumpled to the floor this time, his arms closing in around himself. Pop, crack, snap, his bones broke and elongated. His skin tore from him, falling off like a ripped shirt. He closed his hazel eyes tightly and whimpered, the pain almost unbearable. When he opened his eyes, they were black and soulless and a wild howl erupted as he stood straight up. he was gigantic when he took this form, and he towered over Sirius viciously. Saliva dripped from his snout as his hunched form moved a little closer to the mutt. He sniffed the air, Sirius' scent on everything. He seemed to be alright wit hit for now, taking to sniff around the room and tear apart a few minor things. His attitude and feelings toward Padfoot could change at any give nmoment but for now he seemed content pulling apart a pillow.

Sirius just sat there, watching him and waiting. He refused to move, as he normally did, and for the first few hours that was okay. Near midnight, however, Remus seemed to have enough of that. A powerful swipe went through his back, tossing the mutt across the room. From there the two ran about, destroying things, and Sirius did his best to ware out his friend and get out of the night alive.

Remus' cries could be heard miles away as he tried to tear his way through everything. He lunged at Sirius, nearly killing him more than once. If not for the dogs speed Remus would have woken to a dead friend by morning. Howls sounds and murderous growls emanated as Remus sparred the mutt. After destroying one of the beds almost completely, the sounds of shrinking began to sound out. The loud howls coming from Remus gradually became cries of pain coming from the man that was beginning to reappear. As the skin was replaced again and his bones were painfully sucked back in, Remus lost consciousness. He was on the bed he'd mangled and reaching to the cornered Sirius when he collapsed, falling from the bed to the floor with a loud THUD. He simply curled as he always had, the fetal position as he lay there, meek and not moving.

bloody and limping, Sirius did his part of the day. He pulled the torn blanket up onto his friend and laid by his side but on the floor. Blood oozed from his back and his front limbs but it meant little to him. laying his head on his paws, Sirius rested with a soft whine.

Remus seemed told whine here and there in his sleep, a feeble pathetic sound. He curled into himself as he slept restlessly. He finally woke, sometime in the afternoon, leaving all of his lunch to Sirius. When the nurse bustled in at one point and saw Sirius sitting there, she made it perfectly clear she wanted to dog out.

"He stays," Remus told her gruffly, his voice meek but leaving no room for argument. Remus knew he would have gone absolutely crazy without his friend there, even if he hid while Remus was a monster he would feel more sane. With a glare she left, but not before expressing her extreme concern not only for Remus, but for the animal.

"Did you at least enjoy her lunch?" he asked. He didn't care that words wouldn't be used between the, not in Sirius' state anyway, but he wanted to talk about... something, anything to get his mind off tonight. It would be the most painful, last the longest, and leave him the weakest.

Sirius nodded a bit and tilt his head to the side. Barking slightly, Sirius just watched his friend though, wondering what they would say. Somehow they knew what the other thought but that was what came from being similar creatures. When the night started Sirius got up and waited in the shadowed corner, knowing the pain and agony that was to come.

Remus cringed, feeling the on-comings of the night. As the sun set he whimpered. That whimper turned to a whine and eventually a painful snarl. He seemed to spasm, clutching his head and crumpling in a ball. Pop, crack, crunch, Crrrrack, his bones grew larger than than past two nights. Finally the monster stopped growing, dangerously close to bashing his head on the high ceiling. Hi grimaced, growling when the transformation was complete. He lunged for Sirius, a bloodthirsty howl shaking the very walls of the shack.
